Alpha in Chemistry

Alpha in ChemistryAlpha in chemistry refers to the concept of measurement, both in the natural and human sciences. According to the eminent American scientist Charles Hartshorne, 'a single measure is not a single degree of change,' as in physics, or 'all the true measures are not degrees of freedom.' The quantum physicist Hermann Weyl said, 'There are only two forms of the science of measurement: it must either be an indirect measure, if measured by itself.' So, then the measurement is the absence of an object, which must also be defined by another, and then measured. The word 'measurement' comes from Latin, from 'mettere', which means to put or to set. The Latin measurere means to set. This means that the measuring instrument, the person, the procedure, and the body part or substance used in measuring are all equally important. This applies also to the quantitative method, which can either be quantitative or qualitative. The notion of the quantitative aspect of chemistry dates back to the 17th century, when Sir Humphry Davy, the distinguished scientist, devised his theory that molecules exist in pairs, that is, identical in chemical relationship, and that they take on the roles they fulfill only as a result of the interaction they engage in with each other. He also advanced the idea that gases can be broken down into simpler substances, such as solids and liquids. He realized that acids and bases were compounds of hydrogen atoms and non-polar molecules, and thus that only the atom of hydrogen was the same with the corresponding atom of a polar molecule. The ionic compound, which consisted of one electronegative atom, was his next step. He hypothesized that oppositely charged atoms should remain in contact with each other. However, in modern chemistry, this concept of quantitative chemistry is merely recognized. This branch of chemistry does not have a formal methodology for determining exact quantities. Most, if not all, measurements are only based on random gues swork, assuming only that there are a good number of steps taken. All that is required is for the chemist to rely on intuition and compare how one thing differs from another. There is one exception, though. According to the famous Russian chemist Ignatius Mukwege, a quantitatively defined method is required for precision work. On this basis, the techniques used for measuring are called 'quantitative', or 'proportional', and they are used to quantify the quantities and their variations. In Chemistry, it is not enough to determine the degree of or quantity of a substance, but one must also calculate its rate of change, or 'change of variation', and compare this with a standard. This requires a corresponding calculation, which is called the 'standard-area formula'. On this basis, a particular amount of some substance must be equated with the same quantity of another substance having the same physical nature. It is not necessary to use an actual specimen, as such, in chemical analysis. For example, one can have a material dissolved in water and trace the biological waste through the residue. A specific ratio of biological waste to biological sample can be calculated using the standard-area formula. It is not too difficult, however, to establish 'measurements' on biological samples, and determine the quantity of waste present in them.Alpha also refers to qualitative properties of matter. Such properties may be physical properties, such as the temperature at which an element melts, or the physical nature of the element, as it is. Or, these properties may be properties of molecules.

How to Get Your Child Organized! - ALOHA Mind Math

How to Get Your Child Organized! Some children are naturally organized, but on most days it doesn’t seem like we are the lucky parents of those kids. In most of our homes, we need to work really hard to help our children get organized for school and other activities. Here are some tips for parents on how to get kids to listen and help get them organized: Set an example: The easiest way to help your child learn is by example. If they see you putting things off and leaving messes around the house, they don’t understand that you will be clearing it up 10 minutes later, and might only take it as an implicit agreement that they can do the same. We as parents may need to pick up a few tips to be organized ourselves before helping children find ways to get organized. Create a schedule: When young children start getting independent with their activities, it is a usual occurrence that getting ready for school becomes a long-drawn activity. One way to guide your child on how to be organized for school is to draw up a schedule of all the activities to be done in the morning, starting from brushing of teeth, and including every little step such as putting on their inner clothing. Before the child learns to read, you can use a chart with drawings, moving on to a written schedule and finally you will be surprised to find how quickly they begin to do all the tasks themselves without looking to you for help for every small step. Make clear deadlines and guidelines: At a young age, children need help in establishing deadlines for activities like homework. Try to have a clear time established for weekday homework and weekend homework â€" for example, it is a big no-no to delay homework completion until Sunday evening, and your child should have a clear idea of such guidelines. The first few weeks may need quite a few gentle reminders, but soon you will need to work your weekend schedule around the homework as your child will insist they give it the priority it needs. Another important guideline is involving losing school items like pencils and erasers â€" make it clear to the child that although some loss is expected and understandable, it is important to be careful with their belongings. With a few such ways to help children, it will be a matter of a few weeks or months before they settle into a calm schedule, and we will even begin to feel as though we were always the lucky parents of organized kids. How to Build a Home Gym in an Apartment

How to Build a Home Gym in an Apartment Image via Isorepublic.com Buy the right equipment Buying the right equipment is key to building a successful home gym. There are some pieces of equipment that can be used for multiple exercises, so you would get the most for your money if you buy those home gym staples. These pieces of equipment include: A yoga mat A jump rope A set of dumbbells A set of resistance bands With these four pieces of equipment, you can get a great full body workout in, and they don’t even need to be that expensive! Make sure you can store your equipment The pieces of equipment I mentioned earlier are great not only because they are versatile, but because they can be easily stored. You can roll up a yoga mat, jump rope, and resistance bands, and dumbbells don’t have to take up so much space. You have some options, though, about where and how to store them. For example: Hide them. You can hide away your equipment in something like an ottoman. This strategy will help keep your equipment out of the way, and will free up some much-needed space. In plain sight. You can use your equipment pieces as décor by mounting them on the wall! If you do a quick search on Pinterest, you’ll find many great ideas on how you can do this. Vertical storage. If you like the idea of mounting your equipment on the wall, consider organizing them in vertical columns rather than horizontal rows. It’ll free up space on the wall and will look less cluttered. When space is scarce in your small apartment, you’re going to need equipment that can be easily stored. Consider both the type of equipment and the type of storage you will need for them while you are building your home gym. Invest in high-quality machines If you have enough space to have a machine, like an elliptical or treadmill, definitely go for it! However, make sure it is a good quality machine. You will definitely get what you pay for, so do your research and invest in a good machine. It’s also a good idea to measure the amount of space you have available for the machine. This way, you don’t accidentally get something that doesn’t fit in its designated place. A high-quality machine that’s the right size is an excellent investment for your home gym. Protect the space If you’re living in a small apartment, you will likely be using your bedroom or living room as your home gym. It’s very easy to damage your workout space. For example, a dumbbell can fall on your wooden floors or your elliptical can slam into the wall. You don’t want to damage the space while you work out. Get protective rugs for your floors, and make sure your bigger equipment is a safe distance from the walls. This way, you can prevent any of the previously mentioned accidents from happening. Add mirrors Adding mirrors will not only make your apartment look bigger, but it’ll also be great for your home gym. Real gyms have mirrors to help you examine your form and make sure you are doing the exercises properly (and for post-workout selfies, let’s be honest). If you don’t have someone working out with you in your home gym, you will have to examine your own form. A mirror will help you with that. Plus, it will make your space look more like a real gym. Decorate it! Building off the previous point, decorate the space you want to call your home gym. Add pictures, plants, a bulletin board, and even a TV. These things will make your space prettier and will motivate you to work out. Again, Pinterest will have some great ideas for home gym decorations. Space and money are often limiting factors when it comes to building a home gym. But even with limited space and money, you can create a great home gym that’ll inspire you to stay active. How To Learn About The Pure Substances Definition In Chemistry Class

How To Learn About The Pure Substances Definition In Chemistry ClassBefore a student learns about the pure substances definition in chemistry class, they should first become familiar with the different elements in the periodic table. The periodic table is an ordered list of all the elements in the universe and their various atomic masses. Each element has a unique number or symbol to represent it in the periodic table. In this article, you will find out how you can learn about the pure substances definition in chemistry class. In order to learn about a specific element, a person needs to know its atomic mass, electrical charge, chemical properties, and atomic radius. Knowing these four elements are important to a student's understanding of pure substances. Other elements are then added to the periodic table as they are discovered. The position of each element is also determined by the relative atomic numbers, number of protons and number of neutrons in the atom. An element's mass can be measured by the sum of the atomic masses of all the atoms that make up the element.A major task for any student who wants to learn about the pure substances definition in chemistry class is learning about chemical properties. In chemistry, the chemical properties of an element is its ability to combine with other elements, whether they are non-living, so that it forms compounds with them. These compounds are what makes up the elements of the periodic table. The chemical properties include such things as boiling point, melting point, conductivity, and solubility. The boiling point is the temperature at which a substance boils. The melting point is the temperature at which an element melts when it comes into contact with another element.Conductivity is the speed at which the element moves through a solvent. Molecules that have high conductivity tend to flow more quickly through a liquid. The solubility of an element is simply its tendency to mix with other molecules. When two subst ances are mixed, they separate into a higher or lower molecular mass. Solubility can be measured by using a type of test called a density. Finally, a student who wants to learn about the pure substances definition in chemistry class must learn about the periodic table. The table consists of the mass and atomic number of every element found in the earth's crust and atmosphere. In this table, atoms are arranged in ranks. The table goes from A to Z, which in chemistry stands for alphabets A through Z. Every element on the table except for two, potassium and oxygen, was discovered by scientists and chemists. The element potassium was discovered by Marie and Pierre Curie.Having an understanding of the pure substances definition in chemistry class will help students to understand a wide variety of chemical reactions and materials, like catalysts, thermometers, catalysts, and even gasoline. Students will be able to identify reactions that occur in the laboratory as well as the reaction itsel f.

8 Misconceptions About Introverts - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / 8 Misconceptions About Introverts - Introvert Whisperer 8 Misconceptions About Introverts Sadly, a lot of people can make assumptions about introverts, it’s not to be spiteful, but the term brings misconceptions into play. When people are introduced to the term introvert, then meet someone, they end up matching the person’s character to the term and assuming that’s what all introverts are like. It’s a misunderstood term that can often make people think they lack social skills, introverts think and act differently which isn’t a negative point, here’s a look at eight misconceptions people can have about introverts. Lack Emotion Introverts have just as much emotion as anyone else, the main difference is how they express themselves. Usually, introverts will internalize their emotions rather than using facial expressions and gestures. So, whilst speaking to an introvert about something in the future know that they are interested and concerned, they just might not show it in a conventional way. Don’t Like Working in Teams   Often, introverts do their best work alone. Colleagues may misunderstand this as the person not wanting to work in a team. Depending on the size of the group, introverts can thrive in small groups where their opinion is voiced and valued. If the group is too big introverts tend to shut down if their opinion isn’t being considered, finding the balance is key. Introverts Prefer Being Alone   There are occasions when introverts need some time alone, but this isn’t because they prefer to constantly be alone. They need time to unwind and reflect on events, this can often be done by reading, cleaning or just having some time to think. The main point to take from this is that introverts crave interaction, acknowledgment and friends just as much as everyone else. Don’t Enjoy Talking   One of the biggest misconceptions about introverts is that they are shy and don’t like to talk. Introverts prefer to listen and pick their words carefully, small talk isn’t a good subject for them but they are more inclined to have deep and meaningful conversations they are passionate about. Overthinking   Analysis to consider all possibilities is a common trait for introverts. It helps their decision making, it’s not a case of over thinking but looking more at all avenues. Sometimes this process can lead to analysis paralysis but it’s not an assumption to make about all introverts. Underachievers   The most memorable people tend to be those that are charismatic, personable and extroverted. People naturally desire a big character in most environments to create a positive atmosphere.  It’s not a case of introverts being underachievers, but more their character isn’t the same, there are plenty of successful introverts but it comes from different practices, scientists, artists, physicians, and writers are commonly known to be careers for introverts. They Aren’t Fun   Like the team section, introverts love having fun just as much as anyone else, they tend to prefer more low-key functions but parties are still something they enjoy experiencing. A lot of introverts prefer enjoying themselves with an inner circle of friend, as they feel more comfortable in a small group. Extroverts are Happier   All the previous misconceptions lead to this one, people assume that extroverts are happier because they have a more natural ability to put themselves out there and show positive feelings more. Happiness has nothing to do with the level of emotion you show but more doing what you want to and not feeling the need to put yourself in situations you don’t enjoy. Having an introvert personality has its benefits and it’s not something you can just break out of but there’s always room for improvement. They can put themselves into more social situations and converse more with others but naturally, it’s not something they’re inclined to do. Music is a Universal Language The Truth About Learning It

Music is a Universal Language The Truth About Learning It Suzy S. Youve likely heard the saying Music is a universal language. If thats the case, then how should we be teaching it? How can you effectively learn the language? Read on as Aurora, CO teacher Zach S.  explores the idea   I recently was able to go to a master class taught by Victor Wooten, and he brought up something that is not talked about nearly as much as it should be in music. Music is a language. Now what does that mean? It means that music has rules (music theory) just as languages do (grammar), and that music can be used to communicate with others. I will go more in depth into those two aspects of music as a language, but if you read one thing from this post, this should be it: You do not learn a language by studying grammar all day, you learn a language by talking and by listening. The same approach should be taken to music learn to talk (play) but also learn how to listen. Communicating with Music I love music theory. I have studied it for seven years and it is my favorite class in college right now. With that being said, there are a lot of problems with the way music is being taught. When handed an instrument the first thing I am told to do is learn to play scales. Why? There is nothing musical about scales. I am not able to communicate with a scale, just as I am not able to communicate by saying the ABCs. The first thing we teach a child when they are learning how to speak is a word, but in music the first thing we teach a student is a scale. Why not teach the student how to communicate? Why not teach them how to express themselves first and then teach them how it works second? What I do with students in their first lesson is have them play. I dont care what, I dont care how, I just want to see what they have to say. Then I play back, and by the end of our lesson we are able to communicate and my student has learned how to say something with his instrument. That is why they came to me in the first place, to learn how to talk with their instrument. Why not teach the student that first? Learning How Communicating With Music Works Now this is where music theory comes in. After a little bit of communicating with music, we start to learn why it works. Just as toddlers start to learn grammar in grade school. It is not the FIRST thing that is taught, but it is still taught. One can communicate without any knowledge of grammar, but the ideas one can get across are simple. As one learns more grammar they are able to get more and more complex ideas across to the listener. This is why one should learn scales not to be able to play through them at rapid fire, but to be able to use the scale to get a more complex idea across.  Lets take my main instrument, for example, which is bass guitar. I can hang out on the root of a chord and I will sound good. I then can add in some different rhythms to give it my own little flair. That is with one note, but if I learn the scale that goes with the chord, then six more notes open up. I am able to get a more complex idea across just because I have studied the grammar behind music. This is why music theory is important to allow musicians to better express themselves. Conclusion Music is a universal language. Everyone feels something from music, so that should be the first thing taught to students how to communicate using your instrument, how to be in a band, and how to contribute to the sound. That should be the first thing taught by a teacher. Then it is the teachers responsibility to open up the vocabulary of the student, to allow the student to be able to say more, and say something complex. Music is taught backwards currently; we teach students the grammar and then hope they stay with it long enough to the point were they are allowed to say something. Lets teach student how to say something first, then worry about the grammar behind music. Thank you for reading! Zach S. teaches music theory and bass guitar in Aurora, CO. ACT English Tips

ACT English Tips At first, the English section of the ACT may seem insurmountable. You must select the best and most grammatically sound option from complex and sophisticated choices. At times, it may seem as though each answer is equally correct or incorrect. You will also be asked about the purpose, organization, and style of passages, which may be dense and difficult to understand. If you struggle in english you may want to consider an ACT english tutorwho can help you with your studies or aprep book. However, there are several strategies you can apply to the English portion of the ACT in order to make questions more comprehensible and to maximize your score: 1. Answer simple questions first Questions in the English section are ordered by their location within the passages, not their difficulty. As you progress through the selection, address easy questions first generally, these are ones that ask about grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. Skip the more difficult problems those that ask large questions about the main point of the passage or the purpose of the author until you finish reading the piece and have a strong sense of its meaning. If you are stopped by a particular question, move on you will earn the same points for problems irrespective of difficulty, so do not waste your time on one when you could be quickly answering two or three in the same amount of time. Here are some great tips on how to prep for the ACT english sectionthat you may find useful. 2. Context is important Even when you are correcting grammar or sentence structure, it may be helpful to understand the larger context. If the answer has correct grammar but changes the meaning of the sentence or phrase, it is most certainly the wrong choice. If the underlined portion is only several words in length, read the entire sentence; if a sentence is underlined, skim the sentence immediately before and after in order to locate the context. 3. Finish the passage before moving on Time is crucial on this section and the ACT as a whole. Here, questions are related to one of five reading passages. If you return to a question later, you will most likely have to reread the selection to remember its content. This wastes valuable time. Instead, answer all questions in the passage before addressing the next piece, even if you have to make educated guesses. This is some great information onhow the ACT is scored that you may want to take a look a before taking the test. 4. Embrace the No Change answer On usage and mechanics questions in the English portion, you are presented with the option of choosing the original form of the underlined portion as the correct answer. Since the ACT gives equal odds to each answer choice on the exam, there is a 25% chance that No Change will be the correct response. Often, students are compelled to always choose another answer, or to believe that the No Change option is a trap. However, it is the valid choice one out of four times, so be certain to consider it when answering problems. 5. Eliminate answer choices This is a useful tip on all the sections of the ACT. Consider all four answers and then eliminate those that are clearly wrong. You will not have to compare all the possibilities in order to determine the correct one. Nor will you be influenced by an incorrect answer that is addressing a different grammatical concept or that is changing the meaning of the underlined portion. You may want to take a few ACT practice teststo help you prepare as well.

The differences between the different dialects in Arabic speaking countries (Lebanese Arabic is different from Palestinian Arabic, which is different from Saudi Arabic) when compared with Modern Standard Arabic makes things even harder. Not only does the vocabulary differ depending on which dialect you speak, but the sentence structure and other grammatical intricacies may also be different. Expressions can also vary greatly, as well as pronunciation. It will, however, be a very enriching experience. It is among the most spoken languages in the world with around 300 million native speakers across the Arab world. It is also an official language in many Arab countries in the Middle East and North Africa such as Egypt, Lebanon, Qatar, Syria and Iraq, but it is also widely spoken outside of these places. If you are attentive and aware, your efforts will not only be rewarded - you will improve your oral pronunciation as well as your Arabic writing - but your teacher will also be motivated by your own determination: it is a self-sustained and virtuous circle!Staying focused on the present moment when you are in your Arabic class will  inevitably help you participate in the lesson. Your personal investment and desire will make your memorization efforts easier and you will feel that things will start to assimilate themselves on their own. Here is a good online Arabic course for you.Don't Be Afraid to Ask Your Teacher Questions During Your Arabic TuitionTo learn a new language you need to stay open minded and confident: look words up in the dictionary, but also ask your teacher, that's what he or she is there for!Don't forget that your teacher is not there to judge you: all questions are good questions and there is no such thing as a bad one.Especially for beginners learning Arabic, each question that you ask helps to clarify something in your mind that in turn solidifies some of the basics. If you have a problem with Arabic vocabulary, a question about the pronunciation of a letter, or an issue with the meaning of a word, a good native Arabic speaking tutor will answer you in a clear and concise way.The Superprof  platform can help you find the perfect Arabic tutor for you.To learn the Arabic language effectively and quickly, no question should be overlooked. Often, students are fearful of asking questions because they are worried about what the reaction of others will be.And even if your Arabic teacher cannot answer your question, which can happen as lan guage is not an exact science, ask him or her to try and find out the answer before the next class.Private lessons are not lectures: if you participate and ask your teacher questions, you will memorize most of his or her answers more quickly. It is also a medium to improve your oral expression. The brain more rapidly internalizes vocabulary and Arabic pronunciation if you repeat things orally.Another fundamental aspect in optimizing your private lessons is to understand that Arabic language and Arabic  culture are an integral part of your Arabic learning.Ask your Arabic tutor about the culture of Arab-Muslim countries, their history, customs and other topical subjects. Immersion is important. By immersing yourself in all the aspects of the language, you will have a better understanding how it is built and how to best memorize the words. Read Arab newspapers or even the Quran, it'll teach you a lot about this Semitic language's construction. If Arabic is the mother tongue of your teach er, he or she will be well placed to answer all of your questions, not only about Arabic grammar and pronunciation, but also about Arabic civilization, language and culture What's more, your tutor will probably be able to help you with any questions you may have about Islam, the Quran or the Arab world in general. If you have not already done so, ask him to bring you revision exercises (Arabic GCSE) to each class to keep you up-to-date and to give you opportunities to practice in between classes. These could be exercises on Arabic vocabulary, the Arabic alphabet, Arabic verbs, or Arabic grammar in general.
